Alternate reality off of TDW. :3
Jul. 7th, 2015 07:31 pmHe hadn't intended to live. Not after he'd set foot outside the cell in which he'd been abandoned. Death was better than eternity, with no one to visit. Especially as he realized that some of the fault in that, had been his own. Death had seemed the inevitable choice. Just as it once had, whilst hanging off the side of the Bifrost, above the Abyss.
But he was Loki. Death would not find him cowering in a corner. Just as before, when he'd let go of the throne -- let go of Gungnir -- to take his own life, so this time proved no different. He would die saving them. Reclaiming his family. From his own end at least.
He truly hadn't expected to hear Thor's wail of grief. As his brother wept over him, Loki had wondered if the wound was truly fatal, but he had to keep up the act. If it wasn't, he'd see to the rest later. In fact, the illusion of death might allow him to obtain answers from Odin. Yet Thor's weeping did not stop. For several moments, he sobbed in agony. Loki could not deny the truth, for if Thor thought him dead, there was no one to sway or manipulate with such sentiment. Thor cared. For what it was worth, such care tugged at Loki's heart, and he wanted to return it.
Yet after the Mind Gem and Thanos, he was afraid to. Even if he allowed himself to live and try again, he would survive only to be a continued threat to those he cared for. This death was a sacrifice, and in that there was no lie. He'd merely concealed the time of his own death, that was all.
Now if only Thor would stop weeping.
Eventually, his brother arose, floundering through the sandstorm with his Midgardian Love, towards the jagged caves which lined the distance. Let them go. They didn't need him, and he didn't need them. What he wanted were answers.
And yet... his shirt was still wet with his brother's tears. Could he do this to Thor? Allow him to lose two family members, in only a matter of days?
What was the alternative?! Loki had been used as a threat, enough! So much meticulous planning had gone into pushing his family away. Now was not the time to question it!
Either way, he couldn't very well sit in a sandstorm to think about it. The tiny grains stung annoyingly. Another little present from his brother.
Standing, Loki staggered a little with the pain of his injury. He'd played it up as far more than it had been, certainly, but the hole was there, and the whipping sand didn't exactly soothe it. Thinking, Loki followed along to the caves, concealing himself as invisible the entire way.
Foolish had Thor been, to allow him his powers back. Between what Loki could do, what the Mind Gem could make him do, and what Thanos would have him do... well, this was why he was supposed to be lying dead, over there.
But he wasn't. And for the first time in a long while, he wasn't sure he wanted to be. Perhaps there was some future for them, if Thor would weep so, at a mere jotun's demise. Perhaps home existed, after all. Would Loki allow himself to give all that up, so quickly?
Maybe he could salvage this.
By the time he reached the caves, they'd already disappeared through a convergence portal. Just his luck. Well. No matter; it gave him time to think.
Leaning back upon the cave wall, Loki slumped to the sandy ground with a groan. He'd remain there for a while. He needed rest.
